Guided Option isn't a plan on its own, it's simply an alternative way to refer you for treatment, and is available on most of our plans. It includes a 15% reduction on the usual premiums AND it still provides full comprehensive cover.
We have a special arrangement with leading hospital networks that means with Guided Option they'll choose your consultant and manage your treatment from beginning to end. By doing this they make better use of their resources and so can charge less. We then pass this saving on to you as the 15% discount.
Important: Do not make an appointment directly with a hospital as you will not be covered. Also ensure you do not receive a direct referral. (A direct referral is an appointment with a named specialist).
1. Visit your GP with symptoms and take your Guided Option Open Referral form. If the GP confirms you need a specialist appointment ask the GP to fill in your form, alternatively they can provide a referral letter but this must not be addressed to a named specialist.
2. Once your GP has filled in your open referral form or provided a referral letter, telephone Standard Life Customer Care to register the claim. Wherever possible, we will try and approve your claim over the phone. but there may be times when we need some more information and may require the completion of a claim form.
3. Once the claim is accepted Standard Life will contact the most appropriate hospital with your details for a booking.
4. The hospital contacts you within three working days to arrange an appointment.
5. Once the appointment is confirmed you will either be asked to send your open referral to the hospital, or bring it on the day of your appointment.
6. Further treatment can be arranged direct with the hospital as long as it is eligible under your plan.
